On “Memory Lane” this month, we connect with Celina Penny ’14 all the way from London, England, along with a very special (and familiar) surprise guest! We look back at the 2021–2022 school year with Head of School Joanne Kamins, and then Meagan Mutchmor returns for a final “Spotlight on Learning.”
On Ep. 29, we’re running up the field with our sports episode! Host Mr. Williams is joined in the booth with the one-and-only Mrs. Sveinson as they talk physical education, sports, and mindful learning. On “Memory Lane” this episode, we talk to alumna Lia Loewen ’18, who is currently dancing with the Ailey School of dance in New York City! Mrs. Mutchmor returns for another “Spotlight on Learning” segment, and we catch up with Mrs. Mikos to talk about Middle & Senior School participation in athletics and how great it is to be competing in-person again. Coach Boulton ’09 gives us a recap on the BH Blazers prep hockey season, and we hear from Grade 5 students who tell us about interhouse sports and what it’s like to referee your peers. Finally, we’re introducing a new segment, “Teach Me Something,” featuring Grade 6 student Jocelyn.
On Ep. 28, we’re taking a deep dive into the computer science and robotics program at Balmoral Hall thanks to our guest host Mrs. LaPage, computer science teacher, robotics club leader, and all-around tech enthusiast. On “Memory Lane” this month, we talk to alumna Mia Battad ’19, who is currently doing a co-op placement with video game giant Ubisoft in Winnipeg! Mrs. Mutchmor returns for another “Spotlight on Learning,” and, finally, we catch up with current computer science student Samantha to find out what it’s like to be immersed in coding, cybersecurity, and robotics here at Balmoral Hall. With this episode, we’re also bringing you more great student-produced segments. This month, the robotics club takes us behind the scenes for a glimpse of what makes their ’bots tick.
On Ep. 27, we begin by speaking with Grade 3 teachers Ms Hedden ’13 and Ms MacDougall ’14. Next, we are thrilled to welcome Jeannie (Riley) Senft ’67, who recently was appointed to the Order of Canada for her contributions to the sport of figure skating. She talks about her career, her work to help change the judging of figure skating for the better, and then we take a look back at her time at Balmoral Hall School. Mrs. Mutchmor returns for another “Spotlight on Learning” segment. Then, we have another instalment of student news with Joanne telling us about her role as Alumnae Prefect. Student-athletes Abby and Cailin share with us the “Code of Honour” of BH Blazers Hockey. Lastly, boarding student Chise reflects on winning a recent language contest hosted by University of Manitoba.
On Ep. 26, Mr. Kerr is back in the co-host chair for a jam-packed episode about learning, environmental sustainability, and a little holiday cheer — not to mention, some very exciting hockey news! Take another trip down “Memory Lane” with guest Jaclyn Flom ’13. Later, Grade 5 students, teachers, and advisors join us to talk about Balmoral Hall School’s new Sustainability Fund and the many environmental initiatives BH girls have led recently. Then, Mrs. Mutchmor delivers our first “Spotlight on Learning” segment. Finally, Sports Captain Kara shares with us some school sports news, and Grade 11 student Inez talks about the all-new Maker Market.
On Ep. 25, we’ve got a singing and dancing spectacular for you, recorded live from Sifton Family Theatre, where rehearsals for Shrek The Musical, our first in-person performance in almost two years is happening December 2–3, 2021! Stepping up to the microphone with Mr. Williams are guest hosts Mrs. Bedford-Beesley and Ms Kapac. They joined us to chat with cast members Katie and Chloe, along with crew member Roshni. Finally, we were thrilled to catch up with Yiyang “Ella” Yu, Class of 2019, whose accompaniment on piano was a big part of school musicals and assemblies while she was a student here.
On Ep. 24, aside from discussing their favourite Halloween treats, Mr. Williams and Mr. Kerr interview Paralympian Olivia Meier, Class of 2017, who shares her exciting experiences representing Team Canada in Tokyo. Then, our Middle School leaders drop by for a chat, and Communications & Grad Prefect Hannah Friesen brings us our first edition of “Student News.” Later in the episode, we’re giving you a sneak preview of our new “Spotlight on Learning” feature with Mrs. Mutchmor.
On Ep. 23, we return to the recording studio for Season 3, and we’ve got a special welcome message from Head of School Joanne Kamins to start the school year. Then, meet our new Junior School Principal, Mrs. Nancy MacTavish! She sat down to talk with Mr. Williams and Mr. Kerr to talk about life at BH and some of her plans for Junior School in 2021–2022. Later, we catch up with School Captain Safiya Ratana and find out how the prefects spent their summer vacation and what they have planned for the upcoming school year.
