TOGETHER IS OUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO BE

By Jennifer J. Pawluk, Communications

To begin the 2020–2021 school year, we were in a wonderful position to welcome every student on campus, while respecting the mandated physical distancing requirements and other public health guidelines for Manitoba schools.

We are truly grateful for our behind-the-scenes team, those who ensure that sanitization, the arrangement of classroom spaces, all signage, and the safe operation of our facilities continue to meet best practices.

Following a rapid and tearful departure in March, many of our international students returned to Winnipeg in August and commenced with their quarantine protocols prior to taking up residence in the boarding house.

With classrooms transformed to accommodate new practices, guidance, and protocols, faculty returned the week of August 31 to participate in three days of intensive professional development sessions. Topics included technology upgrades, community health and wellness awareness, curricular programming, protocols for hand-washing, cleaning/disinfecting, and mask-wearing, logistics for cohort transitions, and more.

Says Head of School Joanne Kamins:

“As difficult as this global pandemic has been, it has propelled us towards a bold future for Balmoral Hall School, dedicated to delivering the very best girls’ education from the BH Beginnings child care program to Grade 12.

Our goal continues to be that we have the majority of students on campus with classmates and teachers, learning, exploring, and thriving, together. This means the continued commitment from parents, students, and employees to a multifaceted approach to our wellness. The true spirit of our BH family – building community, connectedness, and confidence – still flourishes in the classrooms of Balmoral Hall School. Nevertheless, we have ensured that robust measures are in place for off-campus learning at home. We are working with the families of those who are immunocompromised as well as several international students who are unable to travel, ensuring that they are able to continue with remote learning at this time.

As we brace ourselves for the curveballs COVID-19 will continue to throw at us, we are sure to experience moments of despair and frustration. I trust that when those times befall us, the BH family will support one another as a team, on-campus or off-, advancing together with our school motto – Meliora Petens – guiding us to continue ‘Seeking Better Things.’”
