Mr. Paterson

MEET THE FACULTY: MR. PATERSON

Currently, I teach Grade 4 at Balmoral Hall School. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from University of Manitoba, worked with children with autism through St. Amant Centre, then pursued my Bachelor of Education at University of British Columbia in The Kootenays. I am currently pursuing my Master of Education through University of Calgary.

After teaching a multi-age Kindergarten to Grade 3 class in Meadow Creek, B.C., I ventured overseas to teach at an offshore British Columbian school in Shanghai, China. While spending six years teaching various elementary grades and gaining valuable administration experience through Shanghai United International School, I discovered my passion for inquiry-based education. I spent last year teaching Grade 4 in West Vancouver at Mulgrave International School before finally returning to my hometown of Winnipeg. I feel fortunate to be teaching in Junior School at Balmoral Hall and am inspired to motivate students to meet their goals and fulfil their potential.

I am excited about the enhancements made to International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme that focus on student agency (voice, choice, and ownership). Tapping into a student's interests and providing open-ended assignments help students to develop a love of learning. I am a certified Philosophy for Children facilitator and run philosophical discussions in my classroom that are guided by student inquiry.

We expanded our family on July 4, 2019, with our first born, Mack, who can be seen frequenting Ms Whiklo's Grade 3 classroom as their Roots of Empathy baby. I am an avid Blue Bombers and Jets fan who enjoys hockey, fishing, skiing, cooking, travelling, and eating cheese.

I look forward to meeting you!
