Cross Lake, Man. (April 2018)

A WEEKEND ON THE ICE IN CROSS LAKE, MAN.

By Erika Hoskins, Recruitment Coordinator

During the last weekend in April, BH Blazers Assistant Coach Regan Boulton '09, along with current Grade 11 student and Junior Women's Hockey League (JWHL) All-Star Kennesha Miswaggon, and I visited the northern Manitoba community of Cross Lake to host a developmental hockey camp at no cost to participants.

Girls of any age and skill level from the surrounding area were invited to participate in a fun-filled weekend. At the Cross Lake recreation centre, we ran three, two-hour ice times with drills, scrimmages, games, and, of course, lots of laughs. We had a great turnout with 25 girls ages five to 14 joining us to play, as we worked with them in small groups to focus on specific skills while using the full ice for group activities as well as plenty of fun games.

The weekend was an amazing experience, not only for the girls who attended the camp but also for us, personally. Visiting such a beautiful community to meet a lot of great people was a pleasure. Thanks to everyone in Cross Lake for welcoming us so warmly!
