Isha Khan '91 is a former BH Head Girl, member of Craig Gowan House and current member of the Balmoral Hall Board of Governors. While at Balmoral Hall, Isha represented the school at many provincial, national and international debating and public speaking competitions, including the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in England. These experiences led Isha to pursue a degree in Law at the University of Victoria.

In 2020, Isha Khan ’91 was appointed to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, where her legal expertise and lifelong commitment to human rights come together in powerful ways.

Before joining the Museum, Isha spent nearly a decade at the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, serving as Executive Director and Senior Counsel. Her advocacy helped drive meaningful change at both the local and provincial levels, including improved accessibility measures across Winnipeg and the introduction of a third gender option on Manitoba birth certificates.

As CEO, Isha leads one of Canada’s six national museums (and the only one west of Ottawa) advancing its mission to promote understanding, respect, and dignity through dialogue, education, and engagement. Under her leadership, the Museum continues to build understanding of human rights by exploring urgent global and Canadian human rights issues spanning Indigenous, labour, and 2SLGBTQiA+ rights, to climate change, rights of incarcerated people and a variety of other contemporary social justice issues, while expanding access through in-person and virtual programming.

Deeply committed to Truth and Reconciliation, Isha has prioritized building relationships with Indigenous communities and takes seriously the responsibility to share their stories through art and storytelling. Her leadership reflects a belief in museums as places of learning, responsibility, and transformation.

Isha has supported many organizations in their work to advance equity and inclusion through her volunteer efforts, including with the Balmoral Hall Board of Governors, but perhaps her most important role is that she is Mom to three BH girls, Safiya Class of '22, Zehra Class of '24, and Lina Class of '27.

We are proud to recognize Isha Khan ’91 for her outstanding leadership and her lasting impact on human rights in Canada and beyond.
