Loreena McKennitt graduated from Balmoral Hall School, where she attended as a boarding student in Ballater House. Despite her short time at the school, the list of her impact was long. Loreena is an internationally acclaimed Canadian composer and singer whose recording career spans more than three decades. Renowned for her “eclectic Celtic” music, she has sold over 16 million albums in more than 40 countries and earned gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards across four continents. Her catalogue includes numerous studio, live, seasonal, and compilation recordings, as well as concert and documentary DVDs. She has won two Juno Awards, received two GRAMMY® nominations, performed for Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III, and was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2023) and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2025).

Equally notable is McKennitt’s success as an independent entrepreneur. In 1985 she founded her own label, Quinlan Road, building it from a mail-order operation into a globally respected company she continues to lead.
Loreena is also a committed philanthropist. She founded the Cook-Rees Memorial Fund for Water Search and Safety and The Falstaff Family Centre, supporting water safety, youth, and families.
A member of the Order of Canada and Order of Manitoba, McKennitt has received numerous national and international honours, served as an honorary colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and holds several honorary degrees. Balmoral Hall is honoured to recognize Loreena as a notable alum.
