BHPA Events

Yahoo BBQ

The BHPA hosts the Yahoo BBQ every September to bring the Balmoral Hall School community together to socialize and make connections.

The Yahoo BBQ takes place in the front schoolyard (weather permitting) and is open to students from BH Beginnings to Grade 12, their families, including grandparents, and staff. We organize a wide variety of activities to delight young and old alike. In the past, we have had bouncy castles, a petting zoo, pony rides, a photo booth, face painting, and entertainers, as well as a wide range of food trucks and dinner options. New additions this year include a Basket Raffle, more seating options, and a Middle & Senior School Teen Lounge, featuring an escape room, video game bus, drink bar, and exclusive seating area.

Tickets are available in late spring and can be purchased online via the link below until noon on Friday before the event.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 10 items.

  • Can we buy tickets at the gate?

While we will welcome walk-up sales, we discourage it. You can expect long delays as we confirm student enrolment and process payments. Also, there is no cash at the gate — only credit cards will be accepted. If you find yourself in need of tickets after online registration has closed, a form will need to be filled out, signed, and handed in upon arrival.
  • How do we pick-up on the day of the BBQ?

Pick-up through the loop is open until 4 p.m. After that time, the loop is closed so that the food trucks can set up. Families with children in BH Beginnings will still be able to enter the parking lot and pick-up their daughters from 2 p.m. onwards.
  • Where do we park?

As parking is extremely limited, we strongly encourage carpooling to the event. If you are driving, please note that there is no parking available at the school after 2 p.m. Sherbrook Street may have a few spots. Parking restrictions will be lifted on East Gate, West Gate, Middle Gate, and Blanchard Street between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., aside from "No Parking" and "No Stopping" zones. Normal bylaws are also in effect with regards to being too close to a fire hydrant, stop sign, and/or sidewalk.
  • What should we wear?

The BHPA encourages everyone to dress in Western-style clothing, footwear, and/or hats. Be creative! We have lots of prizes for the best costumes.
  • Can we drop off our kids at the school?

This is an event geared towards engaging the entire family and building the school community. We encourage everyone to attend. Supervision is not provided.
  • We are new to BH. What can we expect?

All new families are greeted at the gate by a BHPA member who will happily introduce you to other families in your daughter's grade. Everyone is given a sticker that identifies their grade and new parents are also identified with a special sticker that encourages others to welcome you.
  • Do we need to bring any money along?

Access to all activities and food is included in the ticket price, but participation in the Basket Raffle is available for a fee. Our fall decor pieces will be offered for purchase, as well. Monies raised will help offset the cost of the barbecue and other BHPA events.
  • What can I expect if I volunteer?

Volunteer shifts are 30 minutes. It takes approximately 60 volunteers to run the event. Tasks may include helping with set-up, security, registration, garbage pick-up, and teardown. Please note that all volunteers require a ticket. Grades 9 to 11 students who need volunteer hours are welcome to help and get credit. Grade 12 students volunteer as a requirement for graduation. If you are interested in signing up, please contact us at bhpavolunteer@balmoralhall.ca.
  • What happens if the weather is bad?

In the event of rain (or snow — ugh), BHPA volunteers are ready to move the festivities inside and ensure the fun continues.
  • I have more questions. Who can I talk to?

Please email bhpayahoobbq@balmoralhall.ca and we will be happy to help you.
