Enriching Childhood Education

BH Beginnings is a full time, year round child care and nursery program for 2-3 year old girls. In our warm, welcoming facility, our government certified staff encourages the development of the whole child with child-centred experience, based on inquiry and experiential learning. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment, manipulate and discover. We promote a balanced program that guides girls to develop not only socially, but also in other areas of learning, encompassing academic, emotional, physical and cultural needs. BH Beginnings inquiry-based learning draws from best practices in early childhood education.

Our three year old Nursery students participate in a Letterland and home reading programs to begin pre-literacy teaching. The Nursery students attend a regular dance as well as a library class.

As our parents have learned through their daily online report – this usually means a little bit of mess, a lot of laughter, and a ton of fun!

As girls move from Nursery at age three to our newly enhanced junior kindergarten - four-year old program, their learning will begin to focus on foundations of literacy and numeracy, relationships, and wellbeing.

Weather permitting; our students explore the expansive green spaces of Balmoral Hall School each day, which turn into a winter wonderland when it snows! Nestled in the heart of Winnipeg, Manitoba, our campus, on the banks of the Assiniboine River features a landscaped, natural playground, a life-sized playhouse and hundreds of mature trees that provide natural shade in the summer. Whether or not the outdoors cooperate, our girls have daily physical activity in a Gym that is exclusive to our Junior school students and, once they turn three years old, take part in professionally led dance classes in our fully equipped studio.

When it’s time to refuel, the girls sit down to two healthy snacks each day, and a healthy, hot lunch prepared by our on-site team of chefs. All food is included in the tuition.

Child Management

The child care staff at BH work to foster a positive self-concept in each child by:
  • Encouraging children at the school to solve problems by telling the other children or staff what may be troubling them, and then seeking a solution together.
  • Providing programming that stimulates and challenges the children, allowing them to make choices and to feel good about themselves.
  • Making the transition from home to school as easy as possible for each child.
  • Offering and giving as much comfort as possible.
  • Helping the children cope with any day-to-day problems that arise
  • Offering as many choices as possible to the children in the varied situations that arise.
