CBC/Radio-Canada held its Annual Public Meeting in Winnipeg on September 29, and representatives of Balmoral Hall School were pleased to attend this thought-provoking event. I was joined by Grade 11 students Katherine Burley and Maya Schwartz, who volunteered as greeters prior to the meeting. Also attending the event were Executive Director Tina Alto and Recruitment Specialist, Adele Stevens, a former CBC employee.
Comments from President and CEO Hubert T. Lacroix included the following call-to-action in his remarks about the CBC/Radio-Canada broadcast model: "Let's share the things that make us Canadian."
It is worth noting that CBC/Radio-Canada is the only media organization with a mandate to connect all Canadians. In fact, four Winnipeg residents who are pushing boundaries to reshape their communities – inspiring others to do the same – were featured as newsmakers. By sharing their stories, they ignited more than 30 minutes of powerful conversation.
"We heard from several inspirational youth panelists as well as executives," reflects Katherine, adding: "It was a reminder of both the local and the national reach of CBC/Radio-Canada and its power to impact Canadians."
As for "the amazing opportunity" to be part of a national media assembly, Maya shares the following.
"It was very interesting to learn more about CBC/Radio-Canada and the public's opinions."
