One of my favourite times of year is when Nursery students begin school. In most cases, they have observed the previous year's group as they went off to their Nursery activities. During the summer, they are told that soon they will be the "Nursery girls" who will be going to dance and library classes, attending morning meetings, and completing homework in the form of nightly reading.
The very first time they are called to put on their ballet slippers and line up, you can see them standing a little taller. There is so much excitement in the air. That was the case this week as they began reading at home, morning meetings, and dance class; library class will begin soon.
The girls lined up in their new ballet slippers and walked to the dance studio. They met Mrs. Dunning and began their stretches. With smiles and giggles, they did exactly what she asked.
They later returned to the child-care room so proud to have been to their first of many dance classes.
