Grade 6 student Adi Groumoutis has been selected as a finalist in Canada's young Citizens competition. She will receive a free trip to Ottawa, along with 25 other finalists (two from each province and territory) to participate in the Canada’s History Youth Forum.
You can read the latest on Adi's project on the Winnipeg Herald website here. Adi story was also covered in the Winnipeg Sun, here.
Congratulations once again to Adi. We are so proud of all you've accomplished, and are looking forward to see what you'll achieve this year at BH!
(Our original story on Adi's project follows)
Grade 6 student Adi Groumoutis is competing in the competition for Canada’s Young Citizens Award. After completing her heritage fair project on the Winnipeg General Strike, she was selected at the Red River Heritage Fair to participate in the quest to receive this prestigious award. Adi had the opportunity to create a short informational video on the history of her heritage project. Balmoral Hall School was represented three years ago in Ottawa. Adi would be honoured to be the next representative, but she needs your help. From June 11 to July 5, a large vote will take place across Canada, which is worth half of her overall assessment for the award. If all of you, her BH family, would consider using your multiple email addresses to vote for her submission it would be greatly appreciated. Visit her profile page here.
Your votes towards the winner of Canada's Young Citizens Award will be counted as of today, June 11.
Please take the time to view her submission and vote for her project. Adi has worked extremely hard on this project for several months and has represented Balmoral Hall School brilliantly.
The Young Citizens program focuses on citizenship and is a complementary component to Heritage Fairs, an annual event where students present the results of their research on Canadian heroes, legends and key events in Canadian history. Participants in the Young Citizens program make a short video about their heritage fair topic, much like an evening news report or short documentary. The student videos are posted online and reviewed by a panel of judges for a chance to win a trip to Ottawa to attend the Canada’s History Forum.
