Grade 10 students presented their Passion Projects virtually. (May 2021)

PASSION PROJECTS ARE MEANT TO BE SHARED

By Brenda Boonstra, Faculty

Please join me in congratulating this year’s Grade 10 students in completing their Passion Projects and presenting their work to teachers, family, friends, and invited guests May 19–20, 2021.

The Passion Project is a highly anticipated part of the Grade 10 year at Balmoral Hall School. Each year, students take time to consider their interests and future goals to create a year-long project of their choosing completed independently with the support of a faculty/staff advisor. Students use various resources to influence their project’s outcome and take responsibility for all aspects of the project’s completion.

This year’s project presentations moved away from the traditional tabletop-exhibition style, usually held in the school’s atrium, into a remote presentation platform, allowing students to celebrate their work with guests as far away as Libya (pictured), China, Japan, and Germany. From the comfort of their homes, students presented their projects with confidence and grace, discussing goals, challenges, successes, and potential links to the future. Guests were delighted to have had the opportunity to attend the presentations from far and wide and commended the students on their demonstrations of professionalism, independence, creativity, and empathy through the work they completed.

To share their projects with our Balmoral Hall School community, students created websites of their work.

Many thanks to all the advisors who supported the Grade 10s in completing these wonderful projects, and to all the guests who attended presentations and offered their valuable feedback!
