Girls for the World coordinated an incredibly exciting initiative on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2019. Our Voices for Peace allows people to engage in a conversation about how coexistence efforts in the Middle East are key to the widespread upholding of human rights in that region. This program featured an organization called The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, which is located in the Negev desert region in southern Israel.
The Institute brings together students from Israel, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, and many other countries to work on environmental technologies for the benefit of all countries in the Middle East.
A large display was set up in the atrium that students were able to take photos in front of with a Polaroid camera, writing messages on the back to show support for these efforts. Our photos and messages are to be mailed to the Institute, which will sometimes send a reply. We set up a beading station to send friendship bracelets, as well.
