When I moved to Winnipeg in August 2018, I had a choice to make: to continue working in a school setting or to work for a private company. When I worked at Cornell University Law School as a faculty administrative assistant, I really enjoyed my role in a learning environment. I am very fortunate to be trusted by our Head of School, Mrs. Kamins, to be her and the Board's executive assistant. From my office window, I see enthusiastic girls who never fail to say hello, making it all worth it to work at Balmoral Hall School — in addition to the winter break, of course.
As soon as I first walked into Balmoral Hall, I recalled a time 25 years ago when I started attending an all-girls school in the Philippines. I owe all my life's achievements, including those yet to come, to my 10 years of all-girls education. From that experience, I never had any doubts as to what girls can achieve. I am 11,950 km away from my alma mater, but being at Balmoral Hall, supporting the education of girls, I feel like I am giving back by contributing to the endurance of that same educational experience.
Working at Balmoral Hall is a wonderful opportunity for me as I continue to develop professionally while valuing my work-life balance. Balmoral Hall also allows me to learn more about Winnipeg, where our girls brave the cold winter days, while I still cannot believe I am about to experience my second winter of −50°C all too soon!
