Throughout January 2019, students and employees will have meaningful learning opportunities on the topic of wellness, including physical, mental, and spiritual health.
In Middle and Senior School, the focus of Wellness Wednesdays will provide students with time to practise using tools for wellness that include healthy living, service to others, practising gratitude, supportive relationships, and, of course, fun, all while enjoying the comforts of mufti wear.
Tools for wellness are also taught each school year as part of university guidance (and, in Senior School, advisory) programming, which includes priority setting, time management, study skills, mindfulness, and more. Further, in the health program, students study safety, healthy lifestyle practices, and building positive relationships. Flex programming in Middle School provides a daily opportunity for students to explore their interests and discover their passions.
On January 9, students in grades 8 to 12 heard from Dr. Michelle Warren, who spoke about understanding anxiety and tools for mental wellness. (
Dr. Warren also presented to parents in November and to employees in December.) Her talk with students preceded the remaining Wellness Wednesdays throughout the month of January, when Middle/Senior students will participate in a variety of wellness activities, such as meditation, exploring the quest for happiness, and conversations and connectedness.
In Junior School, meanwhile, a three-week series of wellness activities are planned to start January 14, with each day of the week given a theme as follows: Monday Movement, Tuesday Stillness, Wednesday Fire, Thursday Fuel, and Friday Fun.
