Wellness Week 2018

WELLNESS WEEK 2018

By Jennifer Pawluk, Communications Specialist

Without the support of Balmoral Hall Parent Association (BHPA), Wellness Week, January 29 to February 2, 2018, would not have been possible. We are truly grateful for their continued support of this important full school event, which is organized by our Centre for Learning faculty and staff. In just a few years, we have evolved from hosting Wellness Day to celebrating Wellness Week.

So, you may be wondering what that looks like.

Imagine more than 500 BH girls having daily conversations about wellness, including physical, mental, and spiritual health.

We were pleased to welcome Brenley Shapiro to Balmoral Hall on January 29. Read more about her visit at this link.

On January 30, Senior School students in grades 9 to 12 spent the day with volunteers, including Hannah Johnson '10, from Orange Daisy Project who facilitated a variety of multimedia workshops.

"Every time I walked into a workshop, I saw faculty and staff participating or encouraging their students," said Mrs. Krista Greenwood, English teacher and wellness committee member. "I was overwhelmed by the thought of how lucky BH girls are to have such caring mentors in their lives who model what it means to live mentally well, leading with compassion and kindness."

Middle and Senior School students in grades 6 to 12 had the opportunity to participate in a co-curricular fair showcasing student-led activities on January 31.

All students enjoyed a mufti day on February 1, sporting their favourite athleisure articles of clothing, and so they were quite comfortable while participating in a range of classes from Zumba to yoga. Dr. Lorraine Serletis spoke to the youngest of our students, those in BH Beginnings child care, about caring for their teeth. Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4 students delighted in a wellness expo in the morning, and grades 5 to 8 students learned to embrace self-love with Paige Zaporzan.

Finally, on February 2, students started their homework-free weekend early as faculty and staff scheduled some time for professional development; in fact, on that morning, all employees experienced the KAIROS blanket exercise that grades 7 to 12 students learned of during our recent equity conference (as covered by CTV Winnipeg News at Six).

Wellness Week 2018 was a wonderful celebration of healthy living and learning at Balmoral Hall.

Thank you, again, to everyone who made this possible!
