GIRLS FOR THE CURE 2017 RAISES MORE THAN $19K

Mandy Green, Student Activities Coordinator

In October, Balmoral Hall School, along with 120 students and staff from Mulvey School, participated in our annual Girls for the Cure fundraising walk. We were thrilled to present a cheque to CancerCare Manitoba for $19,687. That brings our total donations to $408,500 in 17 years! Thank you to all students, faculty/staff, and family for your donations. Each and every penny counts in helping to find a cure for cancer.

Educating BH girls about cancer awareness and prevention is such an important component of our annual walk. This year, students in grades 8 to 12 had the great opportunity to hear Dr. Kirk McManus speak in an informative, engaging presentation. Dr. Kirk McManus, Associate Professor and Senior Scientist at CancerCare Manitoba’s Research Institute, has two major research interests involving chromosome instability, which has proved to be a precursor to cancer development. A big part of his team is research students. Dr. McManus’s research students have received national and international attention for their work, presenting their findings worldwide and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

We appreciate that Dr. McManus took the time to support Girls for the Cure 2017, as Balmoral Hall is fortunate that guest speakers continue to work with us to educate students about this important cause.
