Changing lives

Genevieve Cloutier '03, Alumnae Relations Coordinator

This week, CNN has been airing a segment featuring each anchor: "The Person Who Changed My Life."

One of these involves Balmoral Hall School alumna Ashleigh Banfield '85 and her mother, Suzie (Holland) Lount Gr. 11 '55, who is also an alumna. Last summer, we heard a knock on the door of Aikins House, and there on the porch she stood with a crew requesting to film an impromptu scene at her alma mater. Of course, we invited them in immediately! During the next hour, between a visit to her mother's Lake of the Woods cottage and Winnipeg airport, Ashleigh sat at a desk that once belonged to Sir James Aikins as well as former Headmaster N. Thomas Russell reminiscing about when Mr. Russell and her mother, who was Alumnae Association President, at the time, motivated her to turn her life around. As a teen, this was a pivotal moment in her life.

CNN will air the special in its entirety on Sunday, January 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, but this article and a clip are available online now!
