TEDx Talk – Chasing Systemic Change, by Andi Sharma ’03

Submitted by Genevieve Cloutier ’03, Alumnae Relations
“There is something profoundly different in how a graduate of Balmoral Hall School holds herself. With a commanding presence about her, she is proud to have successfully tested her intellectual, athletic, and artistic mettle in a rigorous learning environment. The legacy left to me (as an alumna) is to recognize that privilege, wield it to find every opportunity to give back to the community, and help others as much as possible”, said Andi Sharma ’03 as she reflected on her days at BH during an interview for a feature article in the 2015 issue of The Portal magazine.

As a Province of Manitoba policy analyst, she works with stakeholders to protect food sovereignty. Andi says “Until families in northern Manitoba have access to culturally appropriate, nutritious food, I will continue on this path.”

In recent years, Andi has presented at the 2014 World Summit on social enterprise in Nashville, TN, has been recognized internationally by Expo Milano 2015, shared her research at the World Food System Conference 2015 in Switzerland, and was named a Future 40 finalist by CBC Manitoba.

Most recently, Andi has presented a TEDx Talk. This talk highlights the critical design flaw of incentivizing isolated impact within our social service sectors and in its place, offers a model known as a collective impact system that is specifically designed to reorient the entire humanitarian paradigm towards a holistic, systemic approach.

I encourage you to take 12 minutes and listen to her talk.

Congratulations to my fellow Class of 2003 graduate, Andi Sharma!
