A fun-filled Thanksgiving weekend

Heather Milne, Dean of Boarding
The girls began their weekend with a walk around the neighborhood, admiring the falling leaves amid lots of park fun in the beautiful October sunshine before heading back to residence for some chocolate strawberries and fairy bread supplied by our Australian "Gappers."

Then, on Saturday, 21 girls boarded the bus to Deer Meadow Farms for the afternoon. They enjoyed getting lost in the multiple twists and turns of the corn maze, cuddling the rabbits in Bunnyville, and petting the various animals at the farm. The miniature horses and goats were definitely a favourite. They later had the opportunity to pick pumpkins from the patch, and they saw fallow deer (or “Bambi)” along the wagon train ride. The girls had a wonderful afternoon, and they are very much looking forward to carving the pumpkins that we brought home for Halloween.

On Sunday, staff took a large group of girls to buy winter clothing. They all came back excited to show off their new purchases, including winter jackets, boots, hats, and more! We also tool a couple of trips to Winnipeg Winter Club this weekend so that the girls could skate, swim, and more. They all enjoyed some time to use the workout facilities while burning off some energy.

With our new kitchens up and running, the girls had a busy weekend of cooking, too. There were lots of different types of food being prepared. The girls learned to make pumpkin pie on Monday, and for most of them it was the first time they had ever tried it; it was very popular! On Monday night, we celebrated Thanksgiving with a formal dinner in the cafeteria. Throughout the meal, the girls wrote what they are thankful for, posting notes on the wall. It was a chance to spend a great long weekend together as a boarding family. There was an abundant amount of laughter, banter, and selfies taken. A fabulous weekend was had by all!
