Debate and Public speaking is a mandatory subject at BH, with an additional course available as an elective in Grade 11.
In the debate and public speaking program the students focus on the development of their speaking, listening and analytic skills, as well as their ability to think critically. This program also offers an excellent opportunity for our international students to improve their English language appropriate for discussion and presentations.
Students are invited to make public speaking presentations such as dramatic monologues, interpretive readings, persuasive speeches, impromptu speeches, and after-dinner speeches. Girls also research specific resolutions related to the world they live in and prepare arguments and counterarguments to debate those resolutions exploring multiple perspectives.
These classes provide the students with the skill that will enable them to present well in front of an audience and speak with confidence.
In 2017, Balmoral Hall School, in conjunction with Gray Academy of Jewish Education will play host to the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition. 200 students from around the world will arrive in Winnipeg in October for three days of exciting public speaking and debate competitions.
