Grade 9 students "conquer the kitchen" for debate and public speaking classes. (June 2021)

By Carissa (Nikkel) Balcaen ’02, Faculty, and Grade 9 Students

We’re back with another edition of the Grade 9 digital cookbook where the 2020/21 students share the project’s history, tips, and entertaining “how-to” cooking shows for some of their favourite appetizers, salads, soups, meals, sweet desserts, and baking.

Our students reflected on the completion of this persuasive and entertaining public speaking project with some of the following anecdotes.

“I really enjoyed this project as we were able to take a small piece of our outside lives, being a favourite recipe, and share it with our classmates. This was a new and innovative way to strengthen our public speaking skills!” – Anneliese

“We explored different cultures with unique foods and learned about how precise you must be in the kitchen.” – Janet

“I thought the idea of this project was super creative and exciting. I got the chance to see sides of my classmates I never knew existed!” – Zehra

“I really enjoyed this project as I’ve never done anything like this before. It was fun to see everyone’s baking and cooking skills in action!” – Mia
