How to Apply

Balmoral Hall School endeavours to keep costs to a minimum while enhancing and enriching the boarding school experience.

As detailed below, our fees cover every opportunity for an excellent experience with no hidden costs.

  • academic language support, including IELTS prep
  • room and board, including meals and snacks
  • basic school uniform items
  • international student health insurance
  • parent association membership
  • membership to Winnipeg Winter Club (a private fitness facility)
  • transportation to and from the airport, staff-scheduled medical appointments, and off-campus boarding activities

Additional expenses consist of, but are not limited to: optional school uniform items and accessories (pictures, rings, jackets, etc.) athletic or sports fees and equipment; special school or athletic trips; individualized tutoring; private lessons; Duolingo English Test; external examinations; and school supplies. (Students will be advised of the requirements before their arrival in September, and staff will make arrangements for students to purchase supplies if needed.) Personal expenses such as spending money, local taxi charges, or long distance phone costs are considered additional expenses, as well.

  • Duolingo English Test

International applicants whose first language is not English must submit English proficiency test results. Students are required to provide results from Duolingo, which has created a reliable and user-friendly English language proficiency exam that students can take on their computer or laptop.

It is a fast and inexpensive alternative to other options — it takes approximately 40 minutes and costs $49 USD. The exam uses computer-adaptive testing, meaning the questions will adapt to each test-takers' ability, generating a different set of questions for every session.

The exam requires the Google Chrome browser and your computer's self-facing camera and microphone. The testing session is recorded and verified by a Duolingo proctor, and the results are available within 48 hours.
