Alumnae

The Portal

Dear Alumnae & Friends of Balmoral Hall School,

The Portal magazine is a beloved tradition at Balmoral Hall School dating back to the first issue in Spring 1988. All volumes can be found in our Online Archives. In 2020, we were excited to introduce an exclusively digital format!

Keeping true to form,
alumnae features, student features, and class notes are at the forefront. On this dynamic web portal, all content is categorized to suit reader interest areas and will be a repository for school news. This digital format is designed to be conducive to reading on screens and easier to navigate than an online magazine.

We hope you like it and that you find the paths that interest you most as you click your way through The Portal!
Genevieve Cloutier ’03
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR,
BH FOUNDATION
I was a student at Balmoral Hall School for 10 years. I then spent some time away at University of Manitoba Asper School of Business and working for local not-for-profits, where my passion for helping people was fostered. I was pleased to join the Philanthropy & Alum team in 2011, and 12 years later I love Balmoral Hall more than ever. Every day, I am inspired by students and their incredible passion, ideas, and action to make the world a better place, supported by the faculty and staff here. I know the work we do at BH Foundation helps make their dreams a reality. Over the past few years, BH Foundation has taken a front seat in our strategic plan. Incorporated in the 1990s by a visionary board, BH Foundation sat dormant for 20 years, waiting for the right time to focus on endowment. Here we are at last, and I am thrilled to lead this effort, working with our amazing Board of Directors, chaired by Aynsley (Hinchliffe) Cockshott ’83.

Dear Alumnae & Friends of Balmoral Hall School,

It’s been a challenging time for all of us — and yet, despite being limited in our ability to travel or gather, we have found creative ways to stay connected and keep in touch with each other. We have seen an increase in activity from our alumnae community across the generations as we all have sought to maintain and strengthen our ties to one another, to the next generation of BH girls, and to our roots. You have participated virtually in classrooms as guest speakers and mentors, attended last year’s virtual Home for the Holidays event, donated to our new building, Benidickson Centre for Arts & Design, and bid on items during our online auction fundraiser for Balmoral Hall School Foundation.

The Alumnae Association is your “portal” (yes, pun intended — I’ll keep my day job) back into the lively halls of BH, providing you with opportunities to stay connected to the school, to give back, and to expand your personal and professional networks.

Through our Association, I have had the opportunity to speak at Remembrance Day assemblies, judge debating tournaments, attend musicals, celebrate faculty retirements, give charitably to parts of the school I am passionate about, and become a member of the Board of Governors. I have stayed in touch with my own classmates, and I have expanded that circle to other incredible graduates who I might not have met otherwise. The opportunities for involvement are endless and easily facilitated online if you no longer live in Winnipeg.

I encourage you to participate in whatever way is most meaningful to you. We are always open to new ideas and initiatives, so please reach out to the Alumnae Relations team. Let’s stay connected!
