Website Policy

The Balmoral Hall School website ( http://www.balmoralhall.com ) is an official publication of the school. All content must be approved by the Director of Advancement in accordance with these guidelines.  Documents will be published by the webmaster.

General Style and Publishing Guidelines

  1. Pages published as part of the BH website must confirm to the overall design of the site.
  2. Documents to be published must be composed using Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or 2002 (XP), a standard HTML editor, a text processor or a word processor that saves files in HTML format (e.g. Microsoft Word) or as standard ASCII (text) files. The use of an editor such as FrontPage is strongly recommended for those who are learning to compose HTML documents.
  3. A BH page template is available.
  4. Graphics may be composed in any program, but must be submitted in GIF or compressed JPEG/JPG format.
  5. Avoid very large graphics (use the thumbnail feature in FrontPage) and placing multiple large graphics on a page.
  6. Ensure that graphics used from other sites are free from copyright restrictions.
  7. Published documents must never include a student's name, phone number, street address, names of other family members or any personal information about the student.
  8. Photographs must not show individual students.
  9. Student photographs, student work and/or student names will only be published with the expressed written consent from the legal parent/guardian.
  10. References to email addresses are restricted to BH faculty, staff or members of the parent association.
  11. Links to other websites must be screened for objectionable material.
    • A link that logically leads to an objectionable site must be removed. For example, a link to a pop music page that links to a page that publishes objectionable lyrics should be removed, since it is logical to assume that a person looking at the music page would follow links to related pages. By contrast, a link to the Lion King page, which links to the Disney page, which links to the MCA page, which links to a music page which links to objectionable lyrics is not a logical progression of thought.

Other Regulations

The BH website will not be intentionally used for:

  1. Commercial purposes
  2. Political activity
  3. Accessing or transmitting material that is pornographic, obscene or sexually explicit
  4. Accessing or transmitting material that is disparaging of others such that it may create a hostile work or educational environment based on race, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion or political beliefs
  5. Accessing improper confidential information concerning students or other employees
  6. Sending or receiving "chain mail" messages
  7. Any unlawful or unethical purpose
  8. Transmitting copyrighted material without the express written authorization of the copyright holder
