Junior School Resource Program – Enrichment & Support

The Junior School Resource Program offers both enrichment and support services.

Consultation is available to the class teachers, specialists and parents. The class teacher, parents or Director of Junior School can make referrals to Resource. Conferences with teachers, parents or students are offered on a regular or occasional basis. Referrals to Child Guidance Clinic or outside educational agencies are also involved with Resource.

Balmoral Hall School offers a school-wide enrichment model integrated with the school program in all elementary classrooms. Each classroom offers continuous progress in Language Arts and Mathematics. Field trips, special presentations, workshops, and technology-based projects are only a few of our many varied and exciting enrichment activities.

Library

The Library is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. The Teacher-Librarian, Library Technician and a Junior School Library Resource Teacher are assisted by students and parent volunteers.

The library serves as the resource centre for all Nursery to Grade 12 students and staff. The main section of the library houses the reference collection and non-fiction books for all age levels. Young adult fiction (for Middle and Senior students) is found in the main section of the library. Junior fiction and picture books are located in the Junior Library classroom.

Junior School students (JK-5) have a library period once per six-day cycle for story time, activities and instruction in library skills and research. The library is used as an integral part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The library is connected via modem to the online catalogues of Winnipeg Public Library, University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg. Internet computer stations allow students entry into libraries and educational institutions throughout the world and access to a wealth of resources beyond BH’s library walls.

Junior School fosters through their units of inquiry, actions that lead to the awareness of the global needs of others.
