Balmoral Hall Parent Association (BHPA)

Mission Statement

The BHPA endeavours to work as a partner with Balmoral Hall School to promote and enrich students’ educational experiences and to develop and foster a strong sense of community through parental involvement.

The Balmoral Hall Parent Association (BHPA) is made up of parents of Balmoral Hall students. Every parent is automatically a member of the BHPA. At the beginning of the school year, a $20 Parent Association Fund fee is charged to your school account. A family not wishing to participate may have this charge removed by contacting the Business Manager.

As a partner in education, the BHPA strives to enhance the school community, to provide volunteers in various areas, and to organize both social and fundraising events during the school year. Funds raised are allocated back to the school in ways that prove to have the greatest positive impact on the majority of students.

Committees

The BHPA takes pride in valuing diversity among members and volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help with an event and at the same time meet other parents, please contact the school at 784-1600 or email the school.

Allocations: Funds raised by the BHPA are used to contribute to or enhance the educational experience of BH students. The Allocations Chairperson works with the requests for items and presents them to the BHPA.

Barbecue: The BHPA hosts an annual welcoming, not-for-profit barbecue in September called the Yahoo Barbecue Friend Raiser. The Barbecue Chairperson, with the help of volunteers, co-ordinates all aspects of this event, from planning to execution.

Bingo: The BHPA staffs on-going Bingo events with MCEA at both the Regent and McPhillips Street casinos to raise funds for the BHPA. The Bingo Chairs co-ordinate the volunteers with the Bingo dates.

Communications: The BHPA strives for professionalism and continuity in all out-going communications. The Communications Chairperson ensures that all material intended for anyone other than committee members goes through editing/reviewing and then proof-reading/securing school and President approval.

Dance: The BHPA hosts an annual fundraising evening. The Dance Co-Chairpersons plan and co-ordinate all aspects of this event with the exception of the auction.

Dance Auction: The BHPA hosts an annual fundraising dinner, dance, and auction. The Dance Auction Co-Chairpersons plan and co-ordinate all aspects of the live and silent auction portions of the event.

Decorating: The BHPA prides itself on contributing to the seasonal decor of BH. The Decorating Chairperson works with volunteers to decorate the school and lunchroom throughout the year, seasonally, and for special events.

Liaisons: The BHPA provides a Junior School and a Middle/Senior School liaison to work between the BHPA and BH. The School Liaison Co-Chairpersons organize the QSP magazine fundraiser, and set up a Room Parent for each classroom who will assist in the emergency phone network and help the BHPA stay connected with parents.

Library: The BHPA is committed to providing assistance in the BH Library. The Library Chairperson works with the staff in running the annual Book Fair, running the Birthday Book program, and handling the on-going library volunteer program.

Nearly New Sale: Gently-used uniform pieces are resold on consignment, twice a year, at BHPA-run Nearly New Sales, and during the year by appointment only. The Nearly New Sale Chairperson provides a service to BH parents by collecting uniform pieces and selling them at a reduced rate on consignment, a portion profiting the BHPA for allocation.

Residence: Residence is an important part of Balmoral Hall school life. The Residence Chairperson acts as liaison between the BHPA and the Residence Staff in order to facilitate smooth transitions for residence students into BH and Winnipeg life.

Social: The BHPA supports various social events during the school year. The Social Chairperson co-ordinates Grade Parties, special BHPA student treats, and Retirement Teas.

Staff Appreciation: Once each year, to express appreciation to all BH staff, the BHPA hosts a luncheon in their honour. The Staff Appreciation Chairperson is responsible for all aspects of this luncheon.

Volunteer: The BHPA encourages participation by BH parents as volunteers. The Volunteer Chairperson is responsible for all tasks related to integrating volunteers into BHPA activities.

Members at Large: The BHPA also included members who attend PA meeting regularly and assist on committees when needed. Member at large positions are held by those wishing to familiarize themselves with the various positions on the BHPA.
