BH DEBATERS CONTEND AT IMPROMPTU SPEECH TOURNAMENT

On January 17, the Balmoral Hall junior competitive debate team attended the impromptu debate tournament at Acadia Junior High. The tournament was composed of two impromptu debate rounds with various topics. For example, one resolution was "This house regrets the influence of social media." Although impromptu can be challenging, as you are unable to complete research or bring any pre-composed notes into the tournament preparation, with excellent practice sessions prior to the tournament, we were prepared to compete and face the challenging topics of the event.

Four teams attended the tournament, and every team received a medals! In the novice category, Lucy Christopher and Lucy MacDougall placed 3rd a team, and Lucy C. placed 5th as an individual speaker. In the open category, Natasha Hofer and Grace Thomson placed 6th as a team, and Grace placed 10th individually. Lauren Burns and Lindsay Cogan placed 5th as a team. Lindsay also placed 3rd individually, and was announced as the top debater from BH. Finally, Irina Znamirowski and I placed 4th as a team, and Irina placed 4th individually. Overall it was a fantastic experience. Congratulations to everyone on the team, who all did a wonderful job!
