A NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW EXPERIENCES

Simone Penner, Director BH Beginnings Child Care
When I look outside and see the leaves are just beginning to change color,  the weather is starting to dip a little cooler and the morning drive is that much darker, it’s a sure sign that fall is arriving.  The arrival of fall means in child care we say good-bye to some special friends and hello to new ones.  It has always been a bittersweet time.
It is no different this year, we had a special group of girls that a year ago, we could never have believed they would be attending the junior kindergarten!  Now they have begun their first days in JK and are looking so grown up in their tunics.

We try and stay clear of the JK rooms to give them an opportunity to bond with their new teacher…but it is very difficult!  Although we know they are ready for their new adventure, we can’t help but miss seeing them daily in the classrooms.  It doesn’t take long to realize that with their proud smiles and confident conversations, they are more than ready.

When the new children arrive, they and their parents are fearful and unsure of how the whole process of adjustment to the child care program is going to look.  It doesn’t take but a few minutes spent with their new child care educators before they begin to trust and feel that this will be a wonderful experience.  The new families are sent many photos to show them that their daughters are having a great time.  It won’t be long before it seems like they have always been in our care.

The children who have been with us as two year olds also have an adjustment to make.  Half of their buddies are gone to JK and there is a new group of children who are not quite sure about this new place.  Most of them are now entering nursery and have dance class, morning meeting, library and home reading to look forward to.  They are excited to be called ‘The Nursery Girls’ as they have heard their older friends be called during the previous year. They also watched them line up and head out of the class for their dance or library classes.  Now it is their turn!

So just as the weather changes and we need to adjust, so do the little ones of the child care program.  We have no doubt they will have overwhelming success in their year and when next year’s fall rolls around, we will begin the whole process again.
