BH BLAZERS SPRING SPORT NEWS

7-June-10 - Ultimate and Rugby see phenomenal seasons come to an end

The Varsity Rugby season and the Varsity Ultimate season both came to an end on the weekend.  The Rugby team had a strong showing on Friday, losing to SJR in the semi-finals.  It was a great season for the Blazers, as the Rugby program made a comeback.  The Rugby programs looks to be sustained over the next few years with a strong contingent of players from grades 9 and 10 on this year’s team.  It was a pleasure to be a part of the Rugby team, as the girls were motivated, enthusiastic, and determined during each and every practice.  Minor injuries and cold weather and rain never deterred our girls from playing or practicing.

The Varsity Ultimate team sent a select few students to the Ultimate Provincials this weekend.  It was a LONG weekend for everyone, but aches and pains were always masked by smiles…and a lot of mud.  All in all, the girls, along with 4 boys from St. Paul’s, put on a great show and battled Westwood in the Quarterfinals on Sunday morning. While the outcome of that game was not exactly what we aimed for, finishing in the top 8 in the province is a major feat for our 2 year old Ultimate program. The coaching staff could not be happier with progress of the Ultimate team this season.

We are already planning for next spring season, with both the Rugby and Ultimate teams looking to build on excellent seasons. Thank you for all your support over the past few months.

28-May-10 - Blazers soccer team miraculous season comes to an end

The Balmoral Hall Blazers had an excellent 2010-2011 season. Our roster of 16 Grade 9 to 12 girls played hard and had a lot of fun. Coaches Deenish Roopra and Tony DiGeronimo were impressed with the natural athletic ability the girls possessed.

The Blazers went through the regular season undefeated winning all of their games and tying only one against Linden Christian School. In the Zone 12 Championships, Balmoral Hall lost their first game to LCS. The season was filled with a lot of hard work, especially with few to no subs, and a lot of goal scoring!

Great job girls and we are already looking forward to next year!

26-May-10 - Blazers track team dominate Zone 12 meet

The track and field team at BH participated in the Zone 12 track meet at the University of Manitoba in extreme windy conditions this year. The girls did a tremendous job representing BH at the meet. The Varsity girls team finished 1st overall at the meet with top finishes in the 80 m hurdles, 100m, 400m, long jump, javelin, discus, shot put and the 4 x 100m relay. The Junior Varsity girls finished in the top two in the medley relay. Students will represent BH at the Provincial track championships on June 10th, 11th and 12th at the U of M.

19-May-10 - Blazers Rugy Team Continues to Improve

On Friday, the BH Rugby team scored their first two tries of the season vs. SJR. Grade 9 students Natasha Comeau and Bryn Koehn scored each scored tries for the Blazers, as they were tied at halftime with SJR 10-10. While the Blazers eventually lost the game, the girls are excited about their rapid improvement. Next up for Blazers Rugby team is two games at SJR on Friday May 28th beginning at 4:25pm

19-May-10 - Ultimate Team Continues Hot Streak

The BH Ultimate team continued its hot streak on Tuesday by winning their second straight game 13-12 over Richmond. Next up is a game on Thursday at Assiniboine Park at 4:30pm vs. Vincent Massey, as the Blazers look to win their third game in a row and improve to 3-2 (wins-losses) on the season.

18-May-10 - Blazers Soccer remains undefeated!

The Blazers soccer team cruised to a 6 - 0 record with their latest victory versus Calvin Christian and a 4 - 1 win.  In the Blazers 6 games they have outscored their opponents 33 - 5.  Next game is on 25-May with kick off at 4:30pm versus Linden Christian at Wildewood.  Go Blazers!

14-May-10 - Blazers Ultimate secure first victory

The BH Ultimate team won their first game yesterday, improving their season record to 1-2 (wins-losses), by defeating Grant Park 13-12.  Last season we competed as an all-girls team playing in a co-ed league, which led to a lot of fun.  This year, with the help of some recruits (7 St. Paul’s students), our team is now co-ed and is becoming quite competitive. The coaching staff has decided to enter the team in the Provincials at the end of May, and our expectations are rising each day. Please congratulate the Ultimate girls if you see them!  More good news to follow!

Ultimate is one of the country’s fastest growing sports. It is a great spectator sport, as it is fast paced and exciting to watch. I encourage all of you to join us at one of our games at Assiniboine Park, to see the girls play and learn about the sport.
