2-Mar-10 - Incredible Season Comes to an End for High School Team
The High School Hockey team fell short last night losing a very tough battle 2-0. The loss marks the end of an incredible season for 17 amazing girls. “The little team that could” surpassed all expectations and came together as a team early in the year winning the Huskies Invitational in October. It was a great ride that lasted 6 months and 28 games, with the final record reading 15 wins, 10 losses, and 3 ties. The coaching staff could not be more proud of our team. Congratulations to Grade 12 students Carlee Wilson, Jacklyn Prendiville, Madison Stewart, Lexi Giesbrecht and Emily Livingston who all played their final game last night.

24-Feb-10 - High School Team Heads Into Game 3 of Quarterfinals
The High School Team battled Sturgeon Heights in Game #2 of the Quarterfinals last night and came out with a 3-1 victory! The score was 2-0 for the Blazers going into the third period, but Sturgeon Heights scored early in the third to make it 2-1. With the help of some great goaltending by Chantal Lischynski and an empty net goal by Captain Sam Dame, the Blazers held on for the 3-1 win to tie the best of three quarterfinal series 1-1. Game #3 is on Monday March 1st at 3:40 pm at Allard Arena.
 

23-Feb-10 - High School Team Fights Hard in 8-round Shootout
The High School Team played their hearts out last night, but came up short in an 8-round shootout, losing 2-1 in Game #1 of the playoffs. It was a great game that went beyond the third period, as the score was tied at 1-1 through the third period and overtime. Neither team scored in the shootout until Sturgeon Heights scored with their 8th shooter. Rachel Dyck was heroic in net, but could not quite steal the victory. It was a great game and the Blazers are very positive going into a must-win Game #2 Tuesday at 4:15pm. Come cheer on the girls at the St. James Civic Centre.

20-Feb-10 - Prep Grad Night a Success!
BH held the annual Prep Grad Night on February 20 at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Following an exciting 2-1 win over the Eastman Selects, a small ceremony was held on the ice for the graduating players. Thank you to the numerous parents and friends who joined us for this special evening. We wish our graduates well as the look ahead to university!

6-Feb-10 - Blazers skate with the Swiss Olympic team
It was a night to remember Friday evening at the Dakota Community Centre with a once in a lifetime opportunity for the BH Blazers Prep players as they got to skate against the Swiss Olympic team as high school students. With a packed house, estimated at close to 600 in attendance, the Blazers skated well against the Vancouver bound Swiss Olympians. With spirited play on both sides and numerous Blazer scoring opportunities, in front of a strong Balmoral Hall fan base and a boisterous Swiss crowd the game, the Blazers and Swiss provided a very entertaining game with a final score of 9 - 0 for the Swiss. The entire Balmoral Hall Blazer family was honored to be part of such an event in assisting the Swiss prepare for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. We wish the Swiss all the best as they prepare to depart for Vancouver on Tuesday.

3-Feb-10 - BH visits alumna Katie Wilson '09 on Recent Road Trip
During a recent trip to the US, we were able to stop at the University of North Dakota to watch Katie Wilson ’09 play hockey. Katie is a freshman at the University of Minnesota Duluth and is studying Marketing. She has had an impressive start to Bulldog hockey. Currently she leads all freshmen in scoring, is the second leading scorer on her team, has been named WCHA rookie of the week and UMD athlete of the week. It was amazing to watch Katie, who has taken the college hockey scene by storm, compete with her teammates, winning 5-0 against UND

30-Jan-10 - Blazers conclude JWHL regular season schedule
The Blazers returned home from their last JWHL weekend in Minneapolis Minnesota with a 1-2-1 record over the weekend with both losses coming at with a one goal difference. The Blazers finish fourth in the JWHL western conference with 19 points. They now look ahead to a once in a life-time experience in playing the Swiss Olympic team February 5th at 5:30 pm at the Dakota Community Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They will then head east for the JWHL Challenge Cup in Arlington, Virginia. Stay tuned as the Blazers look towards these two highlights of the 2009 - 2010 season. 

29-Jan-10 - Blazers Prep Edges out the Mountaineers...
Going into the last JWHL west weekend the Blazers prep team was looking to make some noise, that noise started Friday night as they took on the second place Mountaineers. The Blazers were able to jump out to a 2 - 0 lead before a strong second period by the Mountaineers bringing the score even at 2 - 2 going into the third period. Then just 5 seconds into the third frame the Mountaineers jumped out to a 3 - 2 lead, however the Blazers would not be denied and responded with the tying goal and eventually the game winning goal before holding off a late push to seal the 4 - 3 win. Up next for the Blazers is the always competitive Warner Warriors at the Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota campus. 

23-Jan-10 - Prep team ends up with split against Westman Wildcats
A January winter storm would not stop the Blazers and Wildcats renewing their rivalry in the second game of a two game set. With continued and determined play on both sides the teams battled their way through another classic with the Blazers finding themselves down 1 - 0 going into the third where they would throw everything they had at the Wildcats but were not able to find the equalizer with the goalie pulled, eventually falling to the Wildcats on an empty net goal for a final score of 2 - 0, earning a split on the weekend. The Blazers and Wildcats are not scheduled to meet again this year, the Blazers wish the Wildcats all the best as they push towards provincials. Up next for the Blazers, a JWHL West weekend in Minneapolis, MN.
 
22-Jan-10 - Prep team takes first of two match-ups versus Provincial Rivals Westman Wildcats
For the first time in two years the Blazers traveled west to face off against the Westman Wildcats on their home ice in Hartney, Manitoba. The home town Wildcats came out strong with a marker in the first minute of play, however the Blazers were not to be denied with a tally of their own just a minute later. The game would continue with hard play from both teams trading power play opportunities with the Blazers eventually pulling ahead and going into the third period with a 3 goal lead and the eventual final score of 5 - 2. Both teams now rest up to go again in the two game set Saturday at 2:00 pm.
 
19-Jan-10 - BlazersHigh School team makes a strong push towards playoffs...
The BH High School team completed a very successful month of hockey Monday night in Portage, going undefeated in all 4 games played in January. The month began with a 2-1 win over Kelvin. Rachel Dyck was outstanding in net and Grade 12 students Carlee Wilson and Madison Stewart scored goals to secure the win. Next up was a rematch with Westwood, where the Blazers got some revenge winning 2-0 in a hard fought game. Rachel Dyck was great once again in goal, as Rikki Meilleur and Cass Taylor both scored goals to pace the Blazers to their second straight win. The third game in January saw a battle for third place in the league standings. It was a fast-paced, yet defensive, game that saw the Blazers tie SturgeonHeights 0-0. Rachel Dyck played very well and recorded her second straight shutout. Finally, the Blazers played in Portage La Prairie on Monday night. Chantal Lischynski was impressive in net recording a 3-1 win. Rikki Meilleur, Sam Dame, and Carlee Wilson scored the goals for BH. Currently the Blazers are in third place in the league standings. The team is off until February 5th when second-place rival St. Mary’s Academy visits the Blazers at the Winter Club in a battle of two of the top teams in the league.
 
18-Jan-10 - Blazers Prep team topple Selects in Sunday matinee...
In a relatively light weekend for games, the Blazers Prep team faced off against the Eastman Selects Midget AA team.  In a fast and competitive game, the Selects striked first before the Blazers answered back just a minute later on a break by Jessica Carswell '11.  Carswell would continue her solid play and find the back of the net with 2 short-handed markers at the beginning of the 2nd less than a minute apart, completing her natural hat trick.  From there the Blazers would not look back with strong play by Erika Thunder '10 and a goal from Sydney Burghardt '10 followed by 2 goals by Kailey Oxenforth '11.  The Blazers start a week of preparation for a 2 game series against rivals Westman Wildcats in HartneyManitoba. 
 
12-Jan-10 - Five High School Players Named to All Star Team
Congratulations to the five BH Blazers who were named to the All-Star team as part of the Women's High School Hockey League. Sam Dame, Chantal Lischynski, Rikki Meilleur, Jayden Skoleski and Rachel Dyck will all play on Sunday, January 24th.

1-Dec-09 - HIGH SCHOOL TEAM KEEPS PACE WITH OAK PARK & ST. MARY'S
On the last day of November the Blazers High School team recorded their 4th shutout in their last 5 games with a 4 - 0 win over the Portage Collegiate Saints.  Rachel Dyck '13 provided the backstop to record her 2nd shutout in as many outings. The victory brings the Blazers to a 6-3-1 league record which is good for 3rd place only three points back of the leading Oak Park Raiders.  With two games remaining before the Christmas break they look to solidify a spot at the top of the standings.

20-Nov-09 - PREP EDGES CALGARY FOR 5TH WIN IN 6 GAMES AND HIGH SCHOOL RECORDS SHUTOUT vs THE SABRES TO EXTEND STREAK!
Both BH Blazers hockey teams were in action tonight and both extended their respective streaks.  The Prep team after a long bus ride pull ahead to beat the Calgary Edge School 3 - 2 in their first game of the JWHL weekend to record their 5th win in 6 games.  Back in the friendly confines of the Winnipeg Winter Club the Blazers High School team extended a very impressive streak of their own by recording a 1 - 0 shutout versus the Sanford Sabres to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

17-Nov-09 - PREP FINDS 4TH WIN IN LAST 5 GAMES AND HIGH SCHOOL UNBEATEN IN 10 GAMES
Both Blazers teams were in action this past weekend with each team extending their respective streaks. The Prep team recorded their 4th win in their last 5 games with a 4 - 1 win on Saturday night against the Pembina Valley Hawks. Meanwhile the Blazers High School team continued their winning ways and extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 5 - 0 redemption win against the Kelvin Clippers.

13-Nov-09 - HIGH SCHOOL TEAM RUNS UNBEATEN STREAK TO NINE GAMES 
The Blazers High School team looked to move into 4th place with a win against Westwood and they did just that coming out with a shutout win by a score of 2 - 0. Rachel Dyck '13 recorded the shutout.

9-Nov-09 - MANITOBA SHOWS WELL AT U18 NATIONALS 
The 2009 edition of Canada's U18 Women's Nationals once again brought together the best young female hockey players in the country and with Manitoba once again showing well. With 6 current BH players and 4 BH Alumnae named to the roster, the Blazers once again had a strong presence at the annual tournament. With a win against Quebec and a convincing victory against British Columbia with BH players recording a total of 17 points in the win with Tess Dusik '10 and Michelle Pawluk '10 recording hat tricks, Team Toba went into the Semi-finals looking to upset the powerhouse Ontario Red. They almost accomplished that feat with a 3 - 4 loss after a flurry of chances and a late game comeback with 3 goals, 2 of which came of the stick of Meghan Dufault '12. In the bronze medal game they met Quebec once again and despite a valiant effort were unable to find bronze.  Some notable BH notes from the U18 Nationals: Meghan Dufault '12 was named Tournament MVP, Tess Dusik '10 and Michelle Pawluk '10 both recorded hat tricks, 4 out of the 5 games featured a BH player/alumnae as the Game Star (Dufault '12 twice, Dusik '10, and Bestland '10), and Team Manitoba Captain was former BH 2008-09 team captain Caitlin MacDonald '09.

8-Nov-09 - HIGH SCHOOL TEAM WINS BIG & PREP TEAM WINS AGAINST SENIOR WESTMAN
The Blazers High School team looked to continue their play on the high note from the Huskies tournament when they faced visiting Portage Collegiate.  The Blazers secured their 6th win of the season in 10 games with a convincing 6 - 1 win. Meanwhile the prep team faced off against the Westman Senior Women's team where they were able to skate to a 2 - 0 win with Erika Thunder '10 recording the shutout.

3-Nov-09 - MINSHULL '08 SWEEPS WEEKEND GAME STAR SELECTIONS, EARNS U of M ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

1-Nov-09 - BLAZERS PUT OUT THE FLAMES EN ROUTE TO TOURNAMENT TITLE...
The Blazers High School team capped off an incredible weekend of hockey with a thrilling shootout victory against rival St. Mary's Flames in the Final of the Huskies Fall Tournament.  Up by one, the Blazers were holding on until St. Mary's tied it up sending the game into an extra frame.  This game would need more than an overtime with both teams trading opportunities but neither being able to seal the victory.  For the second game in a row, the Blazers were headed to a shootout.  However the teams remained tied after the first round of shooters and would require yet another round.  With Chantal Lischynski '11 standing tall in net, Marikka Lee '11 broke the tie with the final goal of the game to solidify the victory and tournament title for the Blazers!

31-Oct-09 - BLAZERS ROCK THE RAIDERS & ADVANCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!
The Blazers High School team scored with 40 seconds remaining in the third period of an intense game, bringing the score to 3-3 against powerhouse Oak Park Raiders. No goals in overtime resulted in a shoot out where Michaela Esposito and Sam Dame scored. Amazing goaltending by Chantal Lischynski allowed the team to win the game with a score of 5-4.The team advances to the Championship game being held on Sunday at 4:45 pm at Keith Bodley Arena.

WHITMAN WINS IT IN OVERTIME...BLAZERS OFF TO SEMI-FINALS
The Blazers High school team will advance to the Semi-Finals in the Huskies Tournament with an Overtime win against Shaftsbury in the Quarters.  With Rachel Dyck '13 very strong in net, Natasha Whitman '12 got the thrilling game winning goal  in overtime. Semi-Finals go this afternoon at 2:40 pm at Keith Bodley Arena.

30-Oct-09 - OFF TO THE QUARTERFINALS...HIGH SCHOOL TEAM STAMPS TICKET...
With a hard fought tie against Fort Frances with spectacular play by goaltender Chantal Lischynski '11 the Blazers high school team has secured their spot in the Quarter Finals in the Huskies Tournament Saturday morning at 9:40 am.
"TAILORED" WIN FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEAM VERSUS JEAN SAUVE
In their opening game in the Huskies Fall tournament the High School team started the tourney strong with a 6 - 4 with a hat trick performance by Cassandra Taylor with one of her goals coming on a Penalty shot.

The Blazers High School team played a great game against the top team in the WWHSHL, the Sturgeon Heights Huskies, and battled to a 1 - 1 maintaining their top 5 placing in the top division.  Meanwhile the Blazers Prep team concludes a week of preparation as they pack up and get ready for a JWHL West Division weekend out west in Vancouver, BC.

26-Oct-09 - HIGH SCHOOL WINS IN ST.ANDREWS & PREP TEAM CHALLENGES TOP U.S. TEAMS
The Blazer High school team dominated play against the Lord Selkirk Royals in St.Andrews on Thursday evening jumping out to a 3 - 0 lead and then withstanding a last minute 2 minute flurry to win 3 - 2.  Meanwhile, the Prep team traveled down to Minneapolis for the prestigious Bauer / Nike invitational tournament and came up just short with a 2 - 1 loss against Detroit Little Caesars in the morning game.  In their evening game they faced off against US powerhouse, Shattuck St. Mary's U19, losing 7 - 1.  They finished off the weekend with a tough loss to Little Caesars.

13-Oct-09 - PREP TEAM RETURNS FROM THANKSGIVING TRIP TO CALGARY
The Blazers Prep team opened the 2009-2010 JWHL season with a 3 - 0 win over the Boston Shamrocks. Erika Thunder '10 recorded her second shutout of the season. The Blazers then ran up against some very strong NAHA, Colorado, NSA, and Washington teams, ending the weekend at 1-4. The Blazers would like to send a HUGE thank you to the Burghardt family for their hospitality over the long travel weekend for the girls!

7-Oct-09 - HIGH SCHOOL TEAM SHOWS WELL AGAINST RIVALS ST. MARY'S
The Blazers High School team played a very strong game against the St.Mary's Flames. The Blazers held the Flames to a 1-1 tie well into the second period in a strong showing in their Season Opener, just days after the team was announced. Final score ended in a 4 - 1 win for the Flames. The High School team's next opponents are the Kelvin Clippers in the Blazers 2009-2010 Home Opener on October 16th, game time is 4:45 at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

5-Oct-09 - PREP TEAM PREPARES FOR OPENING JWHL CONTESTS
With the first few weekends of exhibition play behind them, the Blazers Prep team now sets their sights on the opening JWHL weekend in Calgary, Alberta. This is the first of two cross-divisional matchups that will see the Blazers take on Boston, Washington, NAHA, Colorado, and the National Sports Academy.

5-Oct-09 - PREP TEAM GOES 1-0-1 AGAINST PROVINCIAL RIVALS, WESTMAN WILDCATS
The Blazers home opener welcomed provincial rivals Westman Wildcats to the Winnipeg Winter Club for a two game contest. The Saturday night game saw the teams battle to a 2-2 draw. The Sunday matinee saw the Blazers able to pull out to a 3 - 1 lead with two back to back goals before the second period buzzer sounded. They were able to hold on for the win with a few clutch penalty kills in the third period. Good job Blazers!

27-Sept-09 - PREP TEAM SHUTS OUT MINNESOTA CRUNCH IN ST. CLOUD
The Blazers were able to jump out to a 3 - 0 lead after the first period and were able to skate to the win. Erika Thunder '10 recorded the shutout for the Blazers. The Blazers will now return home to prepare to host Provincial rivals, the Westman Wildcats, October 3rd and 4th at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

26-Sept-09 - PREP TEAM COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST MINNESOTA WEST METRO
Tied 2 - 2 going into the third the Blazers were unable to mount a comeback as Minnesota West Metro pulled ahead with two goals in the third. The Blazers will now play Sunday morning at 8:00 am against the Minnesota Crunch.

26-Sept-09 - PREP TEAM FALLS TO MINNESOTA EAST METRO IN HARD FOUGHT SEASON OPENER
The BH Blazers prep team opened their season against Minnesota East Metro and fell to our southern neighbors 3 - 0.  The Blazers look to bounce back against the western counterparts, Minnesota West Metro at 2:15 pm at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. > Complete tournament draw

22-Sept-09 - '08/'09 BH GRADS SETTLE IN FOR 2009 - 2010
Bosc '09 (Manitoba), Boulton '09 (Quinnipiac), Cockerill '09 (Manitoba), Hergesheimer '09 (Boston U), Hrehirchuk '09 (Manitoba), Kashuba '09 (MWJHL), MacDonald '09 (Manitoba), and Wilson '09 (Minnesota-Duluth) are all settling in to their new teams and the BH Family would like to wish them all the best as they continue to pursue their hockey endeavors.  For a complete list of the BH Hockey grads visit our hockey alumnae section.
