The Arts and Technology Pillar provides the focus on developing the IB attribute of Human Ingenuity. Here students gather for the arts and culture that embraces cutting edge innovation, technology and expression. Students explore and appreciate the human capacity to invent, create, transform, enjoy and improve the quality of life. They have the opportunity to be immersed in multiple forms of expression and information communication technologies.
Balmoral Hall School invites students to be curious, imaginative and artistic within the Arts and Technology domains. Performing arts, visual arts and technology are some of the many communication styles that students use to build knowledge and understand the world around them. They all combine artistic independence yet maintain disciplinary rigour with interdisciplinary scope. This is based on the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Programme. We offers students an opportunity to work in a personalized learning environment focused on critical and creative thinking.
As part of the MYP Programme, Technology is taught as a course througout all five years of the programme. (Gr. 6 to Gr. 10.) Students from Grade 6 to Grade 8 (Year 1-3) explore each of the IB MYP Areas of Interaction using technology as the tool of expression. “The emphasis of ICT courses is on student learning to solve problems, accomplish tasks and express creativity both individually and collaboratively. Students will learn to use today’s technology for tasks at school and in their personal lives. “ (Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes)
In addition, technology is integrated into the BH curriculum through each of the academic disciplines. Students use a variety of technological tools and subject specific software, from digital cameras and scanners to multimedia presentation software and computer-based research to explore a specific theme. The result is that no matter what the students are studying, they enthusiastically embrace technology and its endless possibilities. The girls use laptop computers as a tool in their daily program. They benefit from increased organizational and collaborative skills as well as enhanced research and critical thinking skills.
