Who We Are

BH Beginnings is a full time, year round program for girls that offers: Year round care for 2-3 year old girls Healthy hot lunch program and 2 healthy snacks daily No charge for statutory holidays or scheduled closures Enhanced 6:1 ratio (compared to 8:1) Licensed for 24 2-3 yr old girls Exceeds requirements of 2/3 trained Early Childhood Educators Follows the Reggio Emilia philosophy

Girls aged 3 by December 31 are considered Nursery students and follow the IB PYP curriculum as well as have regularly scheduled dance and library classes.

Balmoral Hall School's Beginnings Child Care program creates a child-centered atmosphere where children feel respected and secure. It is a place of warmth, fun, joy and laughter. The staff encourages the development of the whole child with activities, experiences and inquiry-based learning. It offers a rich and varied "hands on" approach, providing a strong foundation for the very important early years. Students are encouraged to explore, experiment, manipulate and discover. We promote a balanced program that provides for the development of the whole child, not only socially, but also in other areas of learning, encompassing academic, emotional, physical and cultural needs.

The BH Beginnings program is the foundation of our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) in Junior School. Designed for students aged 3 to 12, the program is based on best research and practice from a range of national systems to create a significant, relevant, engaging and challenging educational framework for children. We start our students early on the path of lifelong learners and effective citizens!
 

Reggio Emilia

In addition to the IB PYP, the BH Beginnings Child Care centre has integrated the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education. Inspiration from this world wide recognized program is based on the following set of principles:
 

Children are capable and competent and should have some control over the direction of their learning Children learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearing Children have relationships with other children and with material items in the world that they are encouraged to explore Children are encouraged to express themselves in a variety of ways through the arts and the world around them

Parents are a vital component of our program. Parents are viewed as partners, collaborators and advocates for their child. All staff are committed to the notion that a parent is the child’s first teacher and will involve parents in every aspect of the curriculum.
 

Child Management

The staff at BH will work to foster a positive self-concept in each child by fostering the BH Attitudes and by:
 

Encouraging children at the school to solve problems by telling the other children or staff what may be troubling them, and then seeking a solution together. Providing programming that stimulates and challenges the children, allowing them to make choices and to feel good about themselves. Making the transition from home to school as easy as possible for each child. Offering and giving as much comfort as possible. Helping the children cope with the day-to-day problems that arise Offering as many choices as possible to the children in the varied situations that arise.

Administration

BH Beginnings Child Care is a non-profit and licensed child care program. It is administered by the Director of the BH Beginnings Child Care Program, in collaboration with the Principal of the Junior School.
