Balmoral Hall was proud to honour The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean - 27th Governor General of Canada, at the Yes She Can Award Dinner on May 16, 2011.
The Yes She Can award recognizes exceptional women who have gained international prominence in their career and are role models for young women. The gala event also raises significant funds for the school's endowment, providing scholarships and financial aid to deserving students.

2010 - Julie Payette
In 1992, the Canadian Space Agency selected Julie Payette from 5,330 applicants to become one of four astronauts. In 1999, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery, she was the first Canadian to participate in an International Space Station assembly mission. From 2000 to 2007, she was the Chief Astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency.
In 2009, as the flight engineer aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour, Ms. Payette operated all three robotic arms on a mission that featured a record 13 astronauts from 5 different nationalities together on board a single joint spacecraft. This 16-day mission included five spacewalks and was accomplished in 248 orbits of the Earth. Ms. Payette has logged over 611 hours in space.

2007 - Dr. Madeleine Albright
In 1997, Dr. Albright was named the first woman Secretary of State and became, to that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. From 1993 to 1997, she served as the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as a member of the President’s Cabinet. Dr. Albright is the first Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. She is the chair of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, chair of The Pew Global Attitudes Project and president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Albright is the co-chair of the Commission on the Legal Empowerment of the Poor and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Trustees for the Aspen Institute. Dr. Albright earned a B.A. from Wellesley College, Masters and Doctorate from Columbia University’s Department of Public Law and Government, as well as a Certificate from the Russian Institute.

2006 - Barbara Stymiest, Chief Operating Officer of RBC Financial Group
Chartered Accountant, Ms Stymiest has had a distinguished career in Canada’s financial sector. Prior to joining RBC Financial Group in 2004, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of the TSX Group Inc, where she led the long-term strategic development of both the senior capital market Toronto Stock Exchange, the junior capital market TSX Venture Exchange and the Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Ms Stymiest is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and the only executive from a Canadian company to be named to the Fortune International Power 50. She is a member of and has served on boards and committees for a number of professional and charitable organizations including the CICA Accounting Standards Oversight Council, United Way of Greater Toronto, Hincks-Dellcrest Children's Centre and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Foundation.

2005 - The Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin, P.C., Chief Justice of Canada
After a distinguished career in Western Canada as a lawyer, professor and provincial court justice, Chief Justice McLachlin, was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989 and appointed Chief Justice in 2000. A native of Alberta, Chief Justice McLachlin sits on the Privy Council of Canada and serves as chairperson of numerous organizations including the Advisory Council of the Order of Canada. McLachlin was previously the first woman appointed to the B.C. Court of Appeal, the first female chief justice of the B.C. Supreme Court and the second woman appointed to the nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Canada.

2004 - Linda Cook, President and CEO of Shell Canada Limited
Ms Cook was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Shell Canada Limited (Shell), one of Canada’s largest integrated petroleum companies, on August 1, 2003. Joining the Shell Oil Company after graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, Ms Cook has held positions within the Shell organization in London, England, The Hague in the Netherlands and in the United States. In addition to her responsibilities with Shell, she is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Harvard School of Government Dean’s Council, and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. Ms Cook was named to the Board of Directors of the Boeing Company in December 2003.

2002 - V. Maureen Kempston Darkes, O.C., President and General Manager of General Motors of Canada Limited (GMCL) and Vice President of General Motors Corporation
After earning her BA from the University of Toronto, she went on to achieve her Law degree. Ms. Kempston Darkes has received Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from the University of Toronto, University of Victoria, McMaster University, Dalhousie University, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Law Society of Upper Canada, as well as an Honorary Doctor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University. Among her many awards and accolades, in 1997 Ms. Kempston Darkes received The Order of Ontario, and in 1999, she received the Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame. She has received the Canadian Business Leader Award from the Faculty of Business, University of Alberta and the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award from the American Bar. Ms. Kempston Darkes was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada in January 2000.
