Classes run from September through April, and are tailored to offer a challenging, fun curriculum for everyone.
The Academy currently offers the following fields of study:
Photography and Multimedia
Instructor – Martin Lussier is the PR and Marketing Specialist at the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, and is also a freelance professional photographer, videographer and designer. He received his undergraduate degree in Communications Studies and Fine Arts from the University of Calgary, and is currently working on a series of fine art images of the BC Interior region. Martin is excited to bring his enthusiasm for photography and multimedia to the Academy of Excellence once again this year.
MONDAY 4:00 – 5:30 Introduction to Photography – Grades 6 – 12
SATURDAY 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Advanced Photography – Grades 6-12 (runs every 2nd week)
Students will experience photography from a variety of different perspectives, including traditional film and darkroom techniques, digital imaging and mixed media approaches. Instruction will also focus on image literacy, the history of photography, how to select and buy equipment, and areas of student interest. A final gallery showing will be held in April showcasing all student works.
Students in Advanced Photography must have taken a photography course either through the Academy of Excellence, at Balmoral Hall, or elsewhere in order to fully benefit. The Advance Photography course will require a 3-4 hour commitment outside of class sessions, and may involve a photo field trip subject to student interest. Please contact instructor Martin Lussier at email@example.com for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: Registration fees for photography courses include 5 rolls of black and white film, 25 sheets of 8×10 photographic paper, and all darkroom chemistry required. Students will be responsible for other supplies as required, including supplying a film camera with manual controls. Additional information will be provided to all students within the first 2 weeks of classes.
